Dressing for wedding season, one invitation at a time
Holud, biye, reception — how to plan a season of weddings without buying a new saree for each.
From November to February, most weekends come with an invitation. It’s tempting to treat each one as a new outfit. It’s easier — and kinder to your cupboard — to plan the season as a whole.
Start with the evenings
The biye and the reception are where silk earns its place. One katan or soft silk saree in a colour you love will carry both, styled differently: heavy gold for the wedding, a single statement necklace for the reception.
Keep the days light
Holud and mehndi are long, hands-on and often outdoors. Half silk, cotton and a three-piece you can move in will serve you better than anything that needs to stay perfect.
- Holud: yellow, peach or marigold, in half silk or cotton
- Biye: katan or soft silk, with gold
- Reception: the same silk, restyled — or sheer organza
- Family dinners: an embroidered three-piece
Buy one saree you’ll wear five times, rather than five you’ll wear once.
